Information

Title

Lansdale World War I Memorial

Date

dedicated 1919; likely rededicated May 30, 1921

Description

A rough-hewn granite stele with a polished face incised with the names of Lansdale's war dead sits in Lansdale Memorial Park. The stele, which sits on a narrow, rough-hewn granite base, is now flanked on either side by four other similarly styled monuments dedicated to veterans of World War II (2), the Korean War, and Vietnam. Two World War I-era 155mm cannons stand nearby.

The memorial is dated 1919. Memorial Park was not dedicated until April 4, 1921. The 1922 Yearbook of the Pennsylvania Society indicates a granite World War I memorial was dedicated May 30, 1921. It seems probable that the original 1919 memorial was relocated to the new Memorial Park in 1921 and re-dedicated there on Memorial Day.
