Information

Title

Caddo Parish World War I Memorial Flagpole (LA)

Date

dedicated November 11, 1923

Description

A rectangular stone block with raised lettering on the front and reverse serves as the base of a flagpole. Sponsored by the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, the memorial is dedicated in memory to the soldiers and sailors of Caddo Parish who served in World War I. It is located on the grounds of the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, which building, in 1923, was the just-constructed Shreve Memorial Library. (The library itself commemorated Captain Shreve, founder of the city, not Shreveport's veterans.)
