Description

The Margate, New Jersey, War Memorial is located at the corner of Ventnor and Mansfield Avenues, at the start of a parkway consisting of Ventnor Avenue with landscaped islands and frontage roads on either side.

The original memorial consists of a bronze plaque on a curved stone structure topped with a stone eagle. It was dedicated to seven servicemen who served in World War I, including one who was killed. In those days, Margate was a very small village.

After WWII, a separate stone monument was erected in front of the WWI memorial to honor 15 Margate boys who died in the war.

In subsequent years, five smaller stone monuments were added to the memorial to honor those who served in WWII, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, and Operation Desert Storm.

A second part of the Margate memorial was added across Mansfield Avenue from the original memorial. This section contains monuments that honor 18 individual servicemen, one who died in WWI, 16 who died in WWII, and one who died in the Viet Nam War.
