Joplin American Legion Doughboy Memorial (MO)


dedicated November 11, 1940


The Robert S. Thurman American Legion Post No. 13 commissioned a doughboy for the Legion section of Osborne Cemetery. The statue, made of Arkansas marble, stands 6 feet, 2 1/2 inches tall and rests on a concrete base that is 6 feet high. A plaque on the base carries a simple inscription: “The American Legion, Joplin, Mo., In Memoriam, Robert S. Thurman Post No. 13.” It was dedicated on Armistice Day, 1940.
