Description

A small park dedicated to the nation's defenders--named Defenders Parkway--was dedicated on July 4, 1919. The memorial, which includes the dates of several US wars, starting with World War I, was placed on the land on September 1, 1920. It was sponsored by the Mothers of the Defenders of the Flag, an association that secured a state charter in 1917.

The memorial is black granite and features an American flag and a 5-sided star that encloses the number 8365.
