Cass County Memorial Home (IN)

dedicated 1922

Constructed as a private home in 1860, the house remained in private hands until it was sold in 1920 to Cass County Post 60 of the American Legion. In 1920, a new Indiana law allowed counties to appropriate money for the construction of buildings dedicated to those who fought in World War I. The inscription over the door of the 1922 brick addition reads "War Veterans Memorial Home."

Most of the home's more ornate features were removed during the renovations between 1920 and 1922 and the rooms converted to meeting rooms. The home has been used since its 1922 dedication for community events. In 2016, the city and county agreed to jointly maintain the building.
