Description

On Armistice Day, November 11, 1923, the Miantonomi Park was established as a war memorial. The 100-foot stone Memorial Tower was built by the Miantonomi Park Commission in 1929 and dedicated to the men lost on the battlefields of Europe in World War I. The interior stone steps lead to a narrow metal staircase that ascends to the top observation deck. Located on Miantonomi Hill, it is the the highest point in Newport, R.I.
